Yes, we did it! God is the amazing God!! Rain stopped, sun was out, and the road was dry. The day was excited and full of joy.

After the run, while I stood at the last 0.1 mile to the finishing line seeing other brothers and sisters arriving one after another, I have realized the run was not only a goal, a race and a fund-raising to help others, but I also have seen the meaning of growth in Christ, the unity of the body of Christ, and once again, the importance of the prayer. The children of God are all different, but in Him, we are in one, sharing the same Spirit. Love changes our hearts, makes us strong and unifies us in one.

At that time, I also seen many other people finishing their runs with all their strengths. Seeing people appreciating their lives, love their families and friends. I gave praise to our creator, God, who gives us life and breathe because He loves us so much. Life is good!

when I registered to Run For Orphans, I wondered whether I can make it or not because I seldom run. I always feel that I have hard time to run and it is not that fun to run for long time too.

7/21/10 The first day I started using treadmill to train myself: walk more than run and it is very hard, I used about 40 min for 1.6 mile

8/18/10 I am happy I could make it 3.8 miles in 50 min

9/8/10 This is the first time 3 miles in 50 min without any stopped or walked

9/27/10 4 miles in 53 min

10/13/10 4.5 miles in 1 hr

11/4/10 5 miles in 55 min

11/11/10 Ran with my teammates: 7.3 miles in 1 hr 20 min

11/22/10 Monday is the worse day for me to run because after the busy weekend. Today I tried running outside and I made it little bit less than 10 miles in 1 hr 30 min against the wind with coughing and running nose >_< the last two miles I was almost dragging…very “sun fu”. Actually, time passed very fast because I used the running time prayed for ourselves, families, church, people around us, and charity….etc. I felt good for myself and hope that I can keep on training and can join next year’s Marathon at San Francisco Golden Gate bridge.

The reason i run is because i want to challenge myself to accomplish something i have never done before. I also want to run because the orphans in Africa need help and i want to help them. i have never lost someone close to me or have gone a day without eating anything….. but in Africa, these kids younger than me lose their dad and mom and die from hunger. I feel blessed that i have a mother and father that feeds me everyday. I want to help as much as i can. No one is too young to help change the world. Help me accomplish this goal by donating money to the orphans. Every dollar counts!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for supporting me.

My name is Shaorong Liao (also called Michelle Liao), and I have always wanted do something meaningful to support the children who are in need, and need sponsorship. When the December Relay Marathon was announced, I thought this would be the ideal opportunity to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

I joined the Church of God in Oakland about two years ago. Because of the love from God, many brothers and sisters from the church have participated in different Marathons to gather support for the orphanage that was established by our affiliated Orphan Charity, “The Light and Love Home”. The spirits of our dear brothers and sisters, and how they have put their love into action has greatly inspired me to be part of the support to do something for those who are in need.

Running is not a natural gift for me, so this will be the very first time in my life that I have seriously practiced running. Although I am going to run only ¼ of the 26 mile Marathon (6 miles in total), it will become a very gratifying and personal achievement.

The concern of my lower spine injury in July 2009, it prevented me from having full motion of running at the beginning of the practice sessions. In May 2010, the uncomfortable feeling from the pressed Sciatic Nerve of my right leg had much reduced and I felt my lower back was in the last stage of recovery since the condition has greatly improved from the beginning of the year. I was able to sit longer, and the pain was much less after waking up in the morning. I made the decision to join the December Relay this year, but I have been taking it very easy in the jogging practice, since all my lower back and right leg muscles haven’t been exercised for a long time.

In June 2010, the first time I jogged, it least for only 0.2 miles, then I had to walk because my hip bone on the right side of my body was very painful. I started to question myself, am I really ready to run?

While I continued the practices very slowly every day, gratefully the pain gradually disappeared. After this, I was able to jog 0.1-0.2 miles more each day. Now, I am able to run with a little faster pace and an average of 2-3 miles daily. Every time when I run, the lovely smile and innocent eyes of these children has been the strength keep me finishing the running goal I set for the day.

Thank you very much for spending time reading this article, and on behalf of these lovely children, I would like to ask your kind support for my team and me, so that we can in turn support these children in their time of desperate need.

Please open your heart and give to the very best of your ability. Any amount of money is greatly appreciated. Your kind donation will go 100% to the children, and make a difference to their lives! Thank you again and may God bless you!
